Every December the news media does a round-up of who we lost during the past year that makes us stop to remember people that influenced us, and made us laugh and cry. It’s a way to pay tribute and say goodbye to a list of celebrities, world leaders, sports heroes, writers, artists and animals.
In 2019 we lost a Big Bird, a Monkee, a Wookie, a Dragon, and a Grumpy Cat. We lost one of the original Mouseketeers, one of the original Mod Squad and the girl who became a blueberry in the original Willy Wonka movie. It’s fun flipping through the names and thinking about why we loved them and why we still love old movies, music and TV.
But someone brought this to my attention and said, “here’s something really worth celebrating.”
There in front of me was a list of over 100 rock musicians and actors who are at least 70 years old and were still performing in 2019. This is one-tenth of the list. Did you know that….
- Brenda Lee is 74
- the Rolling Stones are 76-83
- Paul McCartney is 77
- Bob Dylan and Art Garfunkel are 78
- Ringo Starr is 79 (and started a new band a couple of years ago)
- Frankie Avalon is 79
- Judy Collins is 80
- Jerry Lee Lewis is 84
- Willie Nelson is 86
- Little Richard and Loretta Lynn are 87
- Tony Bennett is 93
